Wedding Reception Decor

6 11 2009

our wedding reception is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have fun with the entire family as well as friends. You are celebrating your marriage, so you want to make sure that everything is perfect. Wedding reception décor is something that you will want to take a serious look at to make sure that it matches what you are looking for in your wedding.

Some options for wedding reception décor are as follows:

Fairy Lights

You can have a ceiling covered with fairy lights. Fairy lights are those little white lights that are used around Christmas to light up the tree. Fairy lights, either clear or colored, can be used on the entire ceiling of your wedding reception giving your room a magical appearance.

Ceiling fairy lights usually come in a net and can easily be put up onto the ceiling of the hall. After the reception, they are removed. You normally rent fairy lights as they can be expensive to purchase. They make all the difference in your wedding, however, especially if the choice of lighting is ordinary ceiling lights. In some halls, there are elaborate chandeliers adorning the ceilings. In some, there are florescent lights. The fairy lights can light up the room in place of any other lighting and your guests will be enchanted.

Chair Coverings

Enough cannot be said about material chair coverings for the chairs at the reception. These chair coverings can be rented at party rental places or by the hall. Some halls will not allow you to bring in your own décor, which can end up costing you a lot of money. Party rental places will rent chair coverings, which are basically white slip covers for chairs, for a fraction of what you will pay in the hall. If you are thinking of a wedding, do what you can do to get decent chair coverings.

Wedding Arches

When the bride and groom enter the wedding, there is usually a wedding arch that they can walk through. This is when they are making their first appearance as husband and wife and it is a dramatic event. A wedding arch is something that you should have at your reception. This is, again, something that will be rented.

Tableware

Are you going to opt for fine china and crystal or ordinary glasses and tableware? The hall where you have your wedding will give you a choice for the type of place settings you can have as well as the difference in prices.

Wishing Well

Some people still have an old fashioned wishing well at their wedding receptions as part of the wedding reception décor. The wishing well is where the cards to the bride and groom are deposited. This is an old custom, but can still be used in weddings today. They are usually white and look like a miniature wishing well.

Table Centerpieces

You are going to have to come up with centerpieces for the table. You can usually get these from the florist or the hall. Most halls will allow you to supply your own centerpieces, which you can make for a fraction of what it would cost you to buy one or rent one from the hall.

When you are deciding on your reception décor, discuss with the hall planner just what you will be allowed to bring in and what they will be required to supply. You can generally save money and come up with some unique ideas if you work with a hall that is flexible when it comes to providing your own wedding reception décor.
